Safer Internet Day 2026: Awareness Workshop Organized by NIC, Lucknow

Under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI”, Safer Internet Day was observed on 10 February 2026. On this occasion, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), District Centre Lucknow, in coordination with the NIC State Headquarters, organized a comprehensive awareness workshop on Safe Internet Day, focusing on the safe use of the Internet and cyber security in the digital era. The workshop was held on 10 February 2026 at 12:30 PM at the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Conference Hall, Collectorate (Office of the District Magistrate), Lucknow, under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate.
The objective of the workshop was to sensitize citizens and government officials about the safe, responsible, and informed use of the Internet and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The programme was conducted as part of the nationwide awareness campaign implemented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the ISEA Project, with active support from NIC and other partner agencies.
The workshop was attended by the District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate (City East), senior officers, officials, staff members, and participants from various departments. More than 100 participants took part in the workshop, making it a significant success.

Programme Proceedings
The Safer Internet Day awareness workshop was formally inaugurated by the District Magistrate, Lucknow marking the commencement of the programme.
Thereafter, Shri Saurabh Mishra, Deputy Director (IT) and District Informatics Officer (DIO), NIC Lucknow, delivered the welcome and introductory address. He highlighted the significance of Safer Internet Day and emphasized the growing need for cyber awareness in the present era of digital governance and AI-driven services.
Subsequently, the session was handed over to Shri Tanzeel Osama, Scientific Officer/Engineer-SB & Additional District Informatics Officer (ADIO), NIC Lucknow, who delivered the main presentation of the workshop. His presentation covered the following key aspects:
- Safe and responsible use of the Internet
- Best practices in Cyber Hygiene
- Common cyber threats and their prevention techniques
- Safe and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Cybercrime reporting mechanisms (1930 and the Cyber Crime Portal)
- Government awareness resources such as staysafeonline.in
The presentation emphasized the concept of “Stop, Think, and Verify” and encouraged participants to adopt preventive digital behaviour in their daily lives.

Expert Session on Emerging Cyber Threats
The technical session was further enriched by Shri Koushain Siddiqui, Master Trainer & Cyber Ambassador, CDAC MeitY, who delivered an engaging and highly informative awareness session on emerging cybercrime trends and digital safety.
During his session, Shri Siddiqui elaborated on various prevalent cyber fraud techniques, including:
- Digital Arrest Scams
- Parcel and Courier Scams
- Identity Theft
- Fraud through malicious APK files
- Remote access and social engineering-based attacks
He explained how cybercriminals exploit fear, urgency, and psychological pressure to manipulate victims. Participants were also guided on safe handling of suspicious links and files, verification of digital communications, and practical steps to secure devices, data, and financial assets.
Special emphasis was laid on cyber hygiene, vigilance, and timely reporting of incidents, reinforcing the importance of proactive cyber safety.

Conclusion
The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion and a strong message on collective responsibility towards creating a safer digital ecosystem. The presence of senior district leadership and enthusiastic participation reflected the growing importance of cyber awareness initiatives.
The programme successfully fulfilled the objectives of Safer Internet Day 2026, contributing meaningfully to public awareness on cyber safety, digital responsibility, and secure use of emerging technologies like AI.
